Sizing: To order the correct blanket size, measure from the center of the horse's chest, around the point of the shoulder, across the side of the body to the center of the tail.
If you care about the health, comfort and safety of your horse, then you should invest in at least one horse blanket. Although they might not seem too important, equine blankets protect horses from a number of outdoor elements, including weather and insects. In the end, a comfortable horse is a happy horse. So do your four-legged friend a favor and wrap him in a cozy horse blanket.
The most obvious reason for horse blankets is warmth. All horses produce natural oils that work as insulators against the cold. Each time your horse is vacuumed or curried, those oils are removed. Subsequently, your horse is unable to keep himself warm. The insulation is further depleted with each hair cut. With the use of a warm blanket, your horse will stay warm and comfortable no matter how often he is groomed.
Warmth isn't the only reason horse blankets are effective. They also protect horses from infections and sores caused by insects. Unlike humans, horses don't have hands with which to swat away flies and mosquitoes. In the summer when the bugs are at their worst, a lightweight blanket can give your horse an extra layer of insect-protection.
